Labored Days
An update on a busy summer of projects.
The ranch is nearing habitability. Late last year we set out with the goal of moving our insulin-resistant horse. This has resulted in a series of projects occupying most of our weekends this spring and summer. With the help of Monica's family, we have cleared a path through the woods, put up most of the fencing, put in a well, connected electricity, built a feeding station, and constructed hay sheds. Over the Labor Day weekend, we put up the frame of the three-sided shelter, which should be the final piece of essential infrastructure.
I've found unexpected joy in designing AI systems. At Carta, I have been primarily focused on building the AI pipeline that is the core product of the business. Instead of AI automating away the most interesting work, I've found that it provides a seemingly endless treasure trove of fascinating technical challenges to work on as we pursue the best possible evals.
Speaking of which, I'm building something for fun. I have been developing a personal finance platform. It leverages some pretty wicked techniques to extract financial data from unstructured bank statements and surface it to users in an interface unlike anything I've ever seen. Some of my research on this hobby project has made its way back to Carta to increase the quality of extraction there. Stay tuned for updates!
