About
This page used to be some bullshit about what services I offered. But what if an "about" page could actually say something personal?
I grew up homesteading. My dad fundraised for nonprofits. We had all kinds of animals and took them to the fair every summer. It was hard physical labor, but we lived radically free. My mother got me into a robotics team, where I was immediately hooked on writing the software that made them drive around. For my thirteenth birthday, I asked for a book on creating websites so I could make one for my robots. Then I made a social network for everyone to share their robots, which had a pretty good run.
My parents lost everything in the 2008 housing crash. The family survived on food stamps. I enrolled in a free local trade school. While severely underweight, I became the first computer networking state champion from our county, then again the next year. I was rushed through university when the dean asked me to complete my capstone coursework in my first year of college. Most of the rest of my education was spent studying philosophy, theology, psychology, and working as an engineer.
My big break came when a former boss reached out to ask me to build something big for MIT that would make the world a better place. The project won awards, as did many others I would go on to develop. I ran my own business for a few years, eventually contracting with every past employer since college, which was either a testament to my reputation or their desperation. Working with good people has always been a requirement. I currently work at a biotechnology startup, where we are saving lives through early cancer detection.
At every step of the way, I have been humbled by the generosity of others and the opportunities I have been given.
Trivia
- They say physicists don't truly understand how bicycles work. Apparently, neither do I, because I once broke both of my arms in a freak cycling accident.
- My home does not have a lawn. Instead, I mixed clover into the naturally occurring meadow, which is part of an ever-shrinking ecosystem for wildlife including deer, turkeys, rabbits, and even bears.
